Globalisation, Sustainable Development and Trade: Policy issues, Advocacy Skills and Needs of the Central and Eastern European NGOs was the name of the conference, organised by Glopolis and the Seatle to Brussels Network (S2B) held in Prague, 21-24 of May 2006.

The seminar has hosted about 60 participants from development, environmental, human-rights, gender, alter-globalist and other civil society organisations from Central and Eastern Europe and EU member-states.

Within the main topics of the Conference were:

- Gender Economic Literacy, led by Jivka Marinova from Gender Education, Research and Technologies - Bulgaria (GERT)
- Free Trade Alternatives and Alter-Globalisation Movement, presented by Charly Poppe, Friends of the Earth Europe, Brussels
- Global Trade Issues - WTO in 2006, presented by Carin Smaller, Institute for Agricultural and Trade Policy (IATP), Geneva
- European Commission and DG-Trade, national policy-making and civil society, presented by Martin Koehler, Greens-EFA, Brussels
- National and Local Issues in the CEE Region - Case Studies, presented by researchers and activists from Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.

Irina Yordanova

The regional capacity-building seminar made a balance between the theoretical part, made by introductions mainly from activsts from Western Europe and case studies briefings, presented by Central and Eastern European researchers.

Bulgaria was presented in two case studies:

- The privatisation of water, by Irina Yordanova, Development Research Centre, and
- Garment Industry in Bulgaria, by Christina Haralanova, Internet Rights Bulgaria.
